Carlyn and Doug had the perfect Summer, feels like Fall is coming, Wedding day! I couldn’t believe the gorgeous blue skies and mid 70’s temps that we were gifted. A perfect welcome for the family and friends coming in from all over the country and world.
Carlyn and Doug met at Northwestern University, fell in love, and have cris crossed the country together. They thought that Chicago would be a great location in the middle for their wedding day. It was so fun to see everyone come together to celebrate with them!
We started with getting ready photos at the Hyatt Centric in the Loop, and I immediately fell in love with the gorgeous light they had in the bride’s suite. A modern and beautiful room to get ready in and take all of those detail photos! We were even allowed to use the rooftop for the first look which was perfect.
We trekked around the city a bit for wedding party photos, stopping at the Lurie Gardens, a must have picture with the Chicago Theater sign and then of course…If you are getting married at The Rookery, you have to allot plenty of time for pictures on their iconic spiral staircase. My favorite feature of The Rookery!
They were married in the beautiful Holy Family Church, which is such a stunning church. I love that the Priest turned to the guests during the ceremony and asked them to call out and give advice to the couple. Definitely some beautiful words of wisdom!
After the ceremony, we were escorted to the LaSalle Street bridge where I knew we would be able to capture a little bit of the sunset, but also the beauty of Chicago’s bridges. Carlyn and Doug have a great piece of Chicago Architecture to take with them in the years to come, wedding photos!
At their Rookery reception, the detail that amazed me the most is that Doug and Carlyn (although she told me it was mostly him!) spent countless hours folding paper cranes to grace the tables at the cocktail hour, the escort cards, the guests tables and the head table. These tiny little birds were so delicate and perfect, it took quite a bit of dedication to make all of these! Well done, Doug, well done. I of course had to incorporate them into a bride and groom picture, so at the end of the evening we had fun tossing the birds into the air for a few pictures.
Carlyn and Doug made a special request, a photo with about 70 family members in it, and then a photo with all of the wedding guests. 160 people!! We used the grand staircase for both of the group photos, and I am so happy with how it turned out! What a great photo to have, all of your guests at your reception.
It was such an honor to photograph Doug and Carlyn’s wedding and I am so happy for them as they continue their journey together!
