It is always an honor when a friend asks me to photograph their wedding day, and even more of an honor when the friend doing the asking is the groom, and the bride hasn’t even met me! I commend Alekxia on trusting her fiance’s suggestion that his “photographer friend” capture their big day. I will say, Brandon is probably the only friend that could convince to me to head out to Bakersfield California for a wedding. He promised me that the dreaded high temps of Bakersfield would be mild in November. I wouldn’t exactly call 50 degrees and windy mild…but it was better than 110…I guess?!! ;)
I have known Brandon since my 21st birthday, the day that I landed in Wellington, New Zealand to begin a 3 month adventure. I made several good friends during that trip, many that I keep in touch with. But Brandon has been one of my greatest friends over the years, a friend that has been honest with me and spoken words of truth into my life when I needed them. I introduced him to my family on a snowboarding trip out in Colorado (where he is from) and he showed us the slopes and became good friends with my brothers. He stood up in my older brothers wedding as a groomsmen, and 6 months after that agreed to be the emcee at Jamie and I’s wedding. He has been such a true friend over the years, I was more than honored when he called earlier this year to share his big news and chat about wedding photography.
Seeing Brandon and Alekxia together, so happy and in love with each other was such a relief for me. Why you ask? Because gosh darn it, I’ve wondered and prayed and hoped that Brandon would find the perfect girl for years! And for all the years that I have kept asking him “are you dating someone serious?” and usually getting the no answer, we finally arrived at the day where he found a girl to say yes! And not just any girl, someone who can handle his sense of humor, challenge him as a lawyer, make him laugh, keep up with his insanity… She is funny, smart, stylish and very caring. I know that life will be a grand adventure for these two. And the wish that I have for all of my friends, that they find someone in life to walk beside and do life together, these two have found it in each other.
I didn’t speak up at the rehearsal dinner, to share my words, but Alekxia to you I say: You have found someone who will cherish you always, who will care for you, laugh with you, laugh at you (at times, yes…he tends to do that!), drag you to ridiculously loud concerts, be a listening ear, be very honest with you, and most of all someone you can trust and love with all of your heart. I wish you the best in life together.
