My dear cousin, Ashley, got in touch with me last year to share the big news of her engagement and upcoming wedding. I couldn’t have been more excited! I love my California cousins, and miss them like crazy. Any reason I have to get out there and see everyone, I take it! She asked if I would be willing to photograph her wedding, of course I would!
She was having a simply elegant affair at a camp in the beautiful Kings Canyon area. When we first pulled in before the wedding, it was a picture perfect setting with the ceremony lakeside, and the reception to be held under the twinkling lights in the towering cedars. Ashley, Sergio and their families worked so hard and put so much love into every detail. It was rustic, vintage, chic, and gorgeous! Ashley had spent months growing succulents to use for her centerpieces, and they were amazing. Her bouquet was also unlike anything I have ever seen. Made of succulents, it was delicate and simply stunning.
After the ceremony, Ashley and Sergio, along with my trusty assistant (aka best husband evah!) wandered around around the lake, catching the last bit of sun before it dipped over the mountains. We found such stunning spots, and after shooting in the South, and the Midwest for so many years, the massive trees were just calling my name. I was in love with this location. Every corner we turned was another breathtaking spot.
The reception was such an intimate family affair. I have definitely missed how laid back Californians are…you have good food, good friends, good drinks a whole lotta love and you have the perfect party. Which is exactly what Ashley and Sergio were hoping for. It was a memorable evening of catching up with long lost family members, and witnessing the joy between the newlyweds. The perfect evening!
Did I mention that our 99 year old great grandmother made the trek from Oregon to be at the blessed event? Our Grandma Lola is an amazing woman. I look forward to reuniting with all of the family this Summer, when we head out to Oregon for her 100th birthday. It will be another grand celebration!
