Seattle and Oregon | Vacation days

Seattle Night Skyline

I love vacation. I love coming home from vacation, because there is nothing like being home. I always come home happy to be back, knowing that more adventures lie ahead. I love looking back over the pictures from our trip, remembering the fun, and crazy stuff we did. I told Jamie that I hope he didn’t feel like all he did on vacation was carry my camera bag!! Because I took an abundance of pictures, and now I can’t wait to get a few framed and put on our empty walls.

Sunday we spent the day driving north, up near Anacortes, and then down through Whidbey Island. Our goal was Deception Pass state park, but really we just wanted to drive and see the sights. We stopped for plenty of coffee along the way, they have little shacks everywhere that are drive thru’s for coffee!! Heaven for Jamie!!
It was a decent day, not an abundance of sunshine, but at least not pouring, for which we were thankful. At the end of Whidbey island, we hopped on a short ferry towards Everett. I wish we could have taken more ferry rides!! They are so fun! But time permitted only one short ride, and we did enjoy it. Jamie stood inside while I froze outside getting pictures of the water and cascade mountain range. Beautiful!

Monday, we headed to the Hiram Chittenden Locks. I had been there years ago, but wanted to show Jamie how the locks worked and also the fish ladder. It was pouring, and I mean pouring!!! So we quick watched one boat go through the process, then checked out the fish ladders, where we saw three old fish. We had caught the very end of the run for the year, but it was great seeing the process. After searching high and low for Cherry Street Coffee, we sat and enjoyed the soggy day with our piping hot drinks. Then on to Oregon!

We decided to take the 4 hour ride south so that I could see, and Jamie could meet, my Great Grandma, Great Aunt and cousins. It has been a few years since I’ve seen them!! My Great Grandma is 95 and her memory is sharp as a tack! She started rattling off all of the great grandkids birthdays, and then on to the great great grandkids!! It was so good to see them!

My Great Aunt lives moments from one of the most spectacular views of Mt. Hood. I love visiting there and taking in the beauty of the mountains. Rain was predicted for our day there, but we woke up to a sunny, blue sky day, perfect!! We drove around Mt. Hood, into Parkdale, did a little hiking at a lake nearby and were off to Hood River!!

Hood River and the Columbian Gorge is a well known spot for windsurfers. As a child we would sit and watch them in the summer, fascinating! Then off to Multnomah Falls, another favorite spot of mine!! The colors were gorgeous near the falls and even though it was getting dark, I was still able to get a few shots of the falls. I’ve always wanted to frame one for my wall…

Then back to Seattle to pack and leave the next morning. What a fun, whirlwind trip to the Pacific Northwest! Jamie got a good taste of it, and we both can’t wait to go back for more! The last shots are of our last morning, again it was supposed to be pouring, but awoke to a fog filled, dreamy morning. Then brilliant sunshine. We didn’t want to leave!!

Robyn Copper - I know you don’t know me pretty much at all but I’ve followed your blog and love your work. SOOOOOO, the next time you are in the Seattle/Oregon area we would love a photo shoot of our family. I’ve been looking for someone in this area that I could get to take our photos (if you know of anyone that… that would be great). Anyways, blog about your trips maybe before a little so I know when you are here again… (I don’t know, just an idea) :). You did have good weather and got some wonderful shots.
